What are QR Quick Response Codes?

Have you ever seen those black square barcode-looking things and wondered what they were? Well they are QR Codes, or Quick Response Codes.

Why so named? Well they are designed for a quick interaction between a business and a new or potential consumer and can offer users with smartphones (and other devices) a gateway into a whole new world.
So just what are QR Codes and how do they work?
